An often costly misconception graduate students have is that campus professional staff members and their offices only serve undergraduate students. Below is a list of some of the ways that various offices can support the needs of graduate students.

The Offices and Departments that comprise the Division of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students advocate for student needs and provide services, support and coordination for co-curricular programs to help cultivate and develop community, individual growth, wellness, inclusion and leadership. The office is located in the Student Activities Center in Room 222 and is a hub for general information.

Counseling and psychological services

CAPS provides inclusive access to on-and-off campus psychological and psychiatric services to help students grow and flourish by hearing them as they wish to be understood. The center, which is located on the second floor of the Student Health Services building, offers vitally important  resources, prevention, outreach, and training programs for the campus community to facilitate  psychological well being, academic success and safety on campus. It is a confidential resource.

Student Accessibility Support center

The Student Accessibility Support Center is the designated support service center to enable students with disabilities to develop their academic potential by making their academic experience accessible. In addition to arranging accommodations, a major part of the mission of SASC is to encourage students with disabilities to achieve a high level of autonomy at Stony Brook and far beyond. SASC is located in Room 128 of Educational Communications Center.

Student Health Service

Student Health Service provides delivery of accessible, high quality, cost effective primary health care to the diverse student population. The facility is committed to preventative health and comprehensive wellness, integrating primary care with other student needs inherent in a healthy lifestyle. Student Health Service provides care in a respectful environment , while it protects patient interests and safety.

University Ombuds OFfice

The Ombudsperson is an impartial and independent resource for any individual within the university community seeking assistance or information in pursuit of the resolution of a concern or problem related to their life or work at the university.
